What’s for dinner?

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve eaten? I had balut when I was in the Philippines. It’s a duck egg that’s not entirely formed. You suck out the duck and fluid from a hole in the egg. Ewww. Strange, but some consider it a delicacy. When I went to Peru I was goaded into promising not to eat the guinea pigs – a local favorite – because my friend had guinea pig pets.

The Bible has some strange foods in it. Strange even to the people at the time. BAR presented a fun article looking at some of those foods and the people’s reaction to them. I think we take some of these out of context. We spiritualize manna. We advertise bread based on the ingredients in Ezekiel. Really? Did the marketers read that it was cooked over poop? That’s a great selling point.

Gratefully, our food choices are abundant and we can avoid the odd morsel if we aren’t feeling adventurous.

Bless God for the fruit of the earth that He gives to nourish and sustain us.
