Picture this: What is it?

As you know, I “dig” biblical archeology, especially what it reveals about the text. So, let’s have some fun!

I’m borrowing an idea (and this photo) from Biblical Archaeology Review … let’s play “What is it?”

I’ll give you some hints along the way until someone can name it.

Post your guesses in the reply section. No fair looking it up!

Here goes…

It looks like a shell...maybe associated with baptism or ritual cleansing?

A necklace, but I have a sneaking suspicion it's bigger than that. Can you tell us how big it is?

HINT: Found in Jerusalem excavation. Bridgette - smaller than your thumb. Good question. Fun guesses so far!
  5. Elaine
    a coin?
  6. Elissa
    A weight for a scale?

Another HINT: Would have been found in and near the temple

    A tassel bell?

The tassel bell sounds like a good answer!

Ding, ding, ding! Or should I say ring, ring, ring! Richard has it! They believe it is one of the gold bells that would have hung on the hem or fringes of the high priests. Read Exodus 28:33-35 for context.

      Thanks for playing, everyone!
